Cards offense struggles in 19-3 loss to Chargers

The Cardinals are now 0-2, but hey it’s only the preseason.

The Cardinals’ first four series produced two interceptions and two punts. This great field position nearly transitioned into a safety when Denzel Perryman blasted into the backfield, but came up short on the stop.

Brandon Flowers intercepted Palmer’s pass and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown.

Stanton was picked off in his first series by Jahleel Addae.

Dontrelle Inman left the game after coming across the middle and getting lit up, losing his helmet in the process.

Berco, who will forever be remembered in Tempe for his “Jael Mary” touchdown pass in 2014 at USC, is still the Chargers’ No. 4 quarterback and remains a longshot to make the team’s regular-season roster. Cumberland had only one target from former New York Jets teammate Kellen Clemens before suffering the potentially severe injury. The Chargers weren’t any better in a 27-10 loss at Tennessee.

His first attempt of the evening was batted down at the line of scrimmage, but he followed it by leading San Diego on a 10-play, 43-yard drive to set up a 50-yard Josh Lambo field goal.

In just his second game with the Chargers, Jeff Cumberland suffered an Achilles injury right before halftime. However, the defense more than made up for the lack of offensive production. And while the Cardinals will likely be cautious with the veteran the remainder of the preseason, he’s expected to be ready for the season opener.
