Cards Recall Kolten Wong From Memphis

Wong, who had played exclusively at second base as a pro prior to his demotion, played three games in center field with Memphis, and that figures to be the spot where he’ll see the most action in his return to the Cardinals.

Well the Cardinals managed to find a way to not only have Wong present for his Memphis jersey night scheduled a few days earlier, but also for him to make the Major League Baseball one as well by calling him up late-Friday morning.

Wong was sent to Triple-A Memphis on June 5 and hit.

The Cardinals are giving away a special Hawaiian-themed jersey to the first 30,000 fans age 16 or older who show up for the Rangers-Cardinals game Friday night at Busch Stadium. Kolten was also able to get into a few games a centerfield, apparently playing the position well enough the Cardinals felt comfortable making their next move: demoting outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker. 247 with 24 home runs and 108 RBIs. 429 with four homers and 11 RBI in seven games.

The 25-year-old Wong batted. Hazelbaker had two home runs in May, including his team-leading third pinch-hit homer of the season, but he’s been held without a homer in 10 at-bats during June.

Wong signed a five-year, $25 million extension before the season. He closed April with a. 317 batting average with five home runs and 13 RBIs, but has struggled since.

Wong started in center field for the Redbirds in three games, handling four chances and recording an outfield assist. 250 (31-for-124) with 7 HR’s and 19 RBI in 61 games.
