“Every time I see the players with the torch – when I saw our new captain Max Pacioretty take it and the reception he got from our fans – I still get shivers every time”, said Therrien.

Montreal Canadiens’ Tomas Fleischmann (15) scores on Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist as Rangers Dan Boyle defends during the second period Thursday, October 15, 2015 in Montreal.

That’s hockey in Montreal for the Rangers, whose 3-0 empty-net inflated defeat in a scintillating goaltending exhibition marked the sixth time they’d been blanked over their last 10 visits to the Cathedral of Hockey dating back to the start of the 2011-12 season, a span through which they have scored a sum of five goals.

With about two minutes remaining in regulation, Dale Weise iced the game with his first goal of the season and beat Lundqvist through the legs.

Henrik Lundqvist was able to stop 32 out of 34 attempts from the Blackhawks who were looking for the big win after raising their banner ahead of their game.

Finally, another Original Six rival will be in town on Saturday night as the Habs host the Detroit Red Wings. Fleischmann kept the puck in the Rangers’ end and dished off to Desharnais, who then sent it over to Weise for a quick shot from the right circle.

“We have a lot of respect for that team and their abilities”.

The Rangers had a small edge in the second period as they were shooting on Price early to break onto the board. Our only moment was that five-on-three where he had a couple of saves to make.

So when the captain passes up a chance to pad his stats, they notice. “I think they’re kind of the main reason we’ve played so well so far in the first four games”.

The Rangers are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning record and 35-16 in their last 51 road games.

The qualifier to Vigneault post-game rip-job on his team’s performance is that the Rangers actually generated more of a forecheck and more offensive zone time really than they had all season prior. Kreider injured Price in Game 1 of the 2014 Eastern Conference Final, knocking him out of the series.

The third line provided the offense to give the Montreal Canadiens a 3-0 win over the New York Rangers on Thursday night at the Bell Centre.

It’s not easy to make history when you play for the Montreal Canadiens. The Canadiens wound up adding one final goal with the goalie pulled as Tomas Plekanec banked the puck off of the glass and it slide into the yawning net. “We’ve always felt strong in our abilities and right now it’s paying off. We just have to stick to the same process and realize what’s made us successful”.

Price – who earned four major National Hockey League postseason awards this June when he won the Hart Trophy as the MVP, the Vezina as the top goalie, the Ted Lindsay Award as the most outstanding player as voted upon by the Players Association and shared the William Jennings Trophy for fewest goals allowed – stopped 25 shots for his first shutout of the season.

“When you play a really good team, you know you have to bring your best game”, Price said when asked about his record against the Rangers. The Rangers continued to fight for the tying goal in the third period, but just couldn’t find a way to sneak the puck behind Carey Price.
