Carl Edwards Dominates Toward Wild Bristol Win

Though the race statistics could say otherwise, Edwards’ dominant afternoon performance was by no means a Sunday drive according to the Food City 500 victor.

On Lap 319, Harvick used a pick by the slower vehicle of Casey Mears to get past Edwards and take his first lead of the day. And given the condition of his right-front wheel, Busch’s vehicle doesn’t look like it would have been easy to steer or stop.

Kurt Busch, rookie Chase Elliott, and Trevor Bayne took third, fourth, and fifth place. “You can’t do that without a good racecar and we had a good enough auto to do it and I’m just really thankful for it”. “Now we’re in the Chase, and we can have some fun”.

Busch’s trouble wasn’t over even after he left the race, as his vehicle bumped a woman with a camera as it was heading to the garage. Clint Bowyer rallied from laps down to run eighth, his first top-10 and third lead-lap finish of the season.

Busch endured two right-front tire failures, an additional spin and a pair of speeding penalties on pit road. I just think program doing race.

At Bristol, leader Edwards faced the concern of having the same problem with his right front tires that put Busch and then Kenseth into the wall. Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth and Denny Hamlin all suffered similar tire issues that appeared to be the result of decisions made on setups.

Goodyear official Greg Stucker said the JGR tires will undergo extensive tests.

In 32 Cup races since he returned last May from injury, Busch has seven wins, 18 top-5s and 22 top-10s with 1,255 laps led.

“As the vehicle would run more and more laps it would get tighter and tighter, that’s the weirdest thing that I’ve felt all day and all weekend we haven’t had that problem”. Can you were last week we had a really good vehicle last week in and you know top three auto this car wasn’t that you’ve been on you know we know we can understand why we really.

“We really just missed it all weekend with our Nature’s Bakery Chevy”, Patrick said.

On Lap 37, Edwards was passed by Joey Logano, who handed the lead back to Edwards on Lap 40. That was evident on two restarts in the final 10 laps, when he jumped out and wasn’t challenged in earning his 26th career win. – 250; Kurt Busch – 247; B. Keselowski – 224; D. Hamlin – 222; M. Truex Jr.

That’s what happens when the race is in Tennessee and former Volunteers great and Super Bowl champion quarterback Peyton Manning is in the house. This put him two laps behind everyone else from the start.

FLYING FLAGS: The race featured 15 (so far) cautions for 102 laps.

Busch also spun during Sunday’s race.

Meanwhile, Kyle Busch’s hopes of a third straight Sprint Cup victory went away early – and often – in Sunday’s race. Finishing a career-best fourth, Elliott makes it back-to-back top 5s in 2016.

It took three tries, but Kyle Busch finally found himself in the garage at Bristol. Eventually he did get out, and was called to the NASCAR hauler after the race, along with his crew chief and spotter.

He’s the first driver this year to win a Cup race from the pole, and the first pole victor to win a race since teammate Matt Kenseth led the field at MI last August, 21 races ago. Jimmie Johnson 24. Casey Mears 25.
