Carl Edwards leaving Joe Gibbs Racing, will not compete in 2017

He landed one with Jack Roush and won the 2007 Xfinity Series title.

“I don’t race just for the trophies”, Edwards said. “Everyone was asking for pictures”.

I’ve been racing for over 20 years, it’s been something that I wouldn’t trade for anything. “But we didn’t have much money”.

“When you are with right team, you know the opportunity will come, and it will come at the right time”, Suarez said Wednesday after it was announced he will replace Carl Edwards in Joe Gibbs Racing’s NASCAR Cup No. 19 Toyota.

“That championship year between him and Tony was unbelievable”, Gossage said.

“It’s a dream come true for me”, Suarez said. I know that it won’t be easy. We have a lot to work. “But I’m sure I couldn’t have a better situation”.

But the thought was JGR was grooming him to get there eventually, especially with sponsor Arris – which he shared with Edwards – behind him.

“This is awesome”, Suarez said on stage during the press conference at Joe Gibbs Racing. In today’s era where there’s great concern about the effects of concussions, he said, “I’m a sharp guy, and I want to be a sharp guy in 30 years”.

“It is something that is hard to explain”.

“I think everyone in the sport paid attention to that”, Edwards noted of Earnhardt’s lengthy recovery.

The 37-year-old is using the term “retirement” lightly and didn’t rule out a return to NASCAR should his mind change.

But the progression of his career the last two years has been nothing short of phenomenal.

“I just remember that race – I remember everyone because I couldn’t believe I was on the track with guys like Jeff Gordon and Rusty Wallace and everyone else”, Edwards said in 2015.

Then it will be on to Daytona and Suarez’s rookie season as a Cup driver. He will test January 31-Feb.

One, he was satisfied with how his career worked out in NASCAR.

“When he sat down in front of me and shared what he was thinking, I was totally surprised”, Gibbs said. And it’s not a run, it’s more of a leap. “. This is the right thing. And that’s frustrating and everything, but I feel really good about it”. Was he angling for a ride with a different team other than JGR for 2018, or perhaps he was dissatisfied with teammates Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Matt Kenseth? Dave Rogers, who almost led Edwards to the Cup title last season, will be Suarez’s crew chief. Professionally fulfilled, healthy, and wanting to devote more time to his family, Edwards felt like now was the best time to stop racing even with one year remaining on his contract.

“We’ve been texting back and forth”, said Wallace, who is from Arnold and recently moved back to the St. Louis area.
