“After receiving the ball with his back to goal, Ball turned and, with three touches in the tightest of spaces, he created enough space for himself to lob the goalkeeper with a clever chip that settled into the far corner”. Messi beat four defenders before scoring Barcelona’s first goal against Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final.

Even after the top three goal’s shortlist, votes can for the best goal can be registered after the 30th of November.

There were several 50-metre goals including one from AS Roma’s Alessandro Florenzi, who scored from a almost impossible position near the halfway line in a Champions League match against Barcelona. He scored with a fine bicycle kick from 10 yards out after a running on to a lofted pass through the centre.

His name is now being celebrated alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez, after he was nominated for the goal of the year award.

Federation Internationale de Football Association today announced the ten-strike shortlist for the award, which will be presented at January’s Ballon d’Or ceremony.
