Carlos Condit promises ‘a display of violence’ that people won’t soon forget

However, when that happens, there’s no chance he will be broken in the fight because as his fifth-round effort against Condit proved, “Ruthless” is perhaps the most terrifying fighter on the planet when placed in a compromising situation.

Robbie Lawler beat Carlos Condit via split decision (48-47, 48-47, 47-48) to retain his UFC welterweight title at UFC 195 in Las Vegas. “I laid it all out there”, Lawler (27-10) said of going woozy in the fourth round before possibly becoming the early front-runner for what would be his third consecutive UFC fight of the year.

Lawler now improves to 20-7 and it was his second successful title defense and his 5th straight victory in the octagon while Condit now falls to 30-9. Both Lawler and Condit were their ultra-aggressive selves, both looked capable of finishing the fight, and both were named as winners by those who witnessed the slug-fest immediately following the bout. “We battled it out”, he added.

After what we witnessed at UFC 195, there is no doubt in my mind that Condit is up there as the greatest, toughest, and most gifted fighter in the welterweight division. This fight took every ounce of fight out of both men. But, his most recent submission losses came to Ronaldo Souza and Jake Shields, two of the most unsafe Brazilian jiu-jitsu players in the sport.

Despite landing significantly less strikes through five rounds, two of the three judges scored the fight for Lawler with scores of 47-48, 48-47 and 48-47.

On his second failed title shot: “I’ve been at this for a long time, over 40 professional MMA and kickboxing fights”. “I’m just going to try and get better and improve”.

“I dont worry about what Im not getting, ” Lawler said. White said at the post-fight press conference.

When the final horn sounded, the fighters stopped winging wild punches at one another and together sagged against the cage, the arms of both men hanging over the top to keep them standing.

The scores read on the scoreboard / scorecard were 48-47, 47-48, and 48-47 and as a result, Robbie Lawler won and continued the title of welterweight champ. So even if you think you’re winning, you’ve got to still fight.

In the co-main event, Stipe Miocic dropped former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski with a right to the side of the head in the first minute. It was a welterweight title fight.

The third round in particular was tough to call, with Condit busy but Lawler more risky, while the fifth will go down as one of the best in history as Lawler launched a frenzied attack on his opponent, who to his credit stood firm.
