Carlos Correa, Kris Bryant win Rookie of the Year awards
Joc Pederson finished tied for sixth in 2015 National League Rookie of the Year voting, announced by the Baseball Writers Association of America on Monday afternoon.

That’s going to be a tough sell to the Indians and their fans, who watched the 22-year-old shortstop produce one of the finest debut seasons in team history. Correa joined Jeff Bagwell as the only Astros to win the award. Miguel Sano of the Twins, Roberto Osuna of the Blue Jays, Billy Burns of the Athletics, Eddie Rosario of the Twins, and second-generation major leaguer Delino DeShields of the Texas Rangers also registered votes, albeit none of the first-place variety, in the process.
There were, however, at least five worthy candidates for the next two spots on the list, although I figured neither of those places on my ballot would have any effect on the actual victor. I’m happy for (Correa). He had a great season. I’m glad to see the award stay in Puerto Rico.
“I’m not mad. You build memories and those stick with you for the rest of your life”.
Oz: Haha, no. Just making sure you know how to count words. I play to try to get the game like the Alomars did when I was growing up.
“Honestly, I haven’t really thought about that much lately”, Bryant said. I’m guessing if I was in Houston, I’d have been the same way for Correa. Correa is a special young player. So, you’ll get to gloat about being right even though we all know that’s not the case. 279 with 22 homers, 68 RBIs and 14 steals, helping the Astros make their first postseason appearance in a decade. He was also a key member of a playoff team, batting third for the Astros, who beat the Yankees in the AL wild card game before bowing out to eventual world champion Kansas City in the Division Series. He led all American League rookies in WAR (4.6), average (.313), and on-base percentage.
Where Lindor appeared to have an edge was defensively.
“You feed off each other”, Bryant said.
The Cubs’ Joe Maddon and Jake Arrieta were finalists for Manager of the Year and Cy Young, respectively.
Lindor’s defense was expected.
This should come as no surprise to anyone. 835 for Lindor – and the Cleveland rookie actually had the better batting average, .313-.279. Sano plays third base, he’s 22 years old and he arrived in the majors about one month (July 2) after Correa and Lindor.
But look at a few other rookies that year: Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, David Cone, Fred McGriff, Rafael Palmeiro, Ellis Burks, B.J. Surhoff, Paul O’Neill, Chuck Finley and Randy Myers.

We start with the Rookie of the Year awards, which seem likely to crown a pair of players who were each instrumental to their team’s postseason runs this year and who went a long way toward fulfilling their superstar potential in their first season.
