The nominations for the awards, known as the Baftas, were announced Friday morning. The movie that also topped this year’s Golden Globes nominations has other nods- Rooney Mara for the best supporting actress, Todd Hynes for the best director and Phyllis Nagy for the adapted screenplay.

“Spotlight”, a film about the investigation into Catholic Church abuse, completed the nominations for best film, and earned nods for original screenplay and supporting actor for Mark Ruffalo.
Some surprising omissions included Jennifer Lawrence’s latest David O. Russell collaboration Joy, which failed to secure any nominations at all, and Charlotte Rampling’s universally praised performance in 45 Years which was overlooked.
“The Revenant” was nominated in eight categories.
Michael Fassbender is up for best actor for playing Steve Jobs. Also nominated in the best movie category are Leonardo DiCaprio’s “The Revenant” and “Spotlight”.
“The Revenant” received nominations for Best Film, Best Director for Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Best Original Music, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Make Up And Hair and Sound, while DiCaprio will be contending for the Best Leading Actor award for the film. Meanwhile George Miller’s triumphant return with outback drama Mad Max: Fury Road has landed him seven.
“Star Wars” newcomer John Boyega was nominated for the Rising Star Award – decided by public vote – alongside “Room” star Larson and performers Bel Powley, Dakota Johnson and Taron Egerton.
The other two frontrunners are Tom Hanks-starrer historical drama-thriller “Bridge of Spies” and “The Big Short”, which garnered four nominations apiece, including the best film.
Winners will be announced at the BAFTA awards ceremony in London on February 14, 2016.

That movie does, however, feature in the Outstanding British Film category, alongside Asif Kapadia’s Winehouse documentary Amy, plus Brooklyn, The Danish Girl, Ex-Machina and the surreal comedy The Lobster.
