‘Carol,’ ‘The Big Short’ lead varied field in Golden Globe film race

The nominees for the best television drama series are: “Empire”, “Game of Thrones”, “Mr. Robot”, “Narcos” and “Outlander”. The film will compete against “Spotlight”, “The Revenant”, “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Room” for best motion picture drama.

The TV network is also absent in the running for best comedy series.

The nominees for best motion picture comedy or musical are The Martian, Trainwreck, The Big Short, Joy, and Spy. The announcement comes as yet another indication of who might be up for an Oscar this year following Wednesday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations.

Actors Angela Bassett, America Ferrera, Chloe Grace Moretz and Dennis Quaid will announce the nominations for honors for tops television and film awards bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

One notable Golden Globes snub was for Johnny Depp’s performance as Boston criminal Whitey Bulger in “Black Mass”, which earned him a best actor SAG nomination.

It was also runner-up for Best Film at the L.A.
