It’s taken eight goddamn years, but Todd Haynes finally has a followup to 2007’s experimental “Bob Dylan biopic”, I’m Not There.

The actress stars in the 1950s drama as a woman in a loveless marriage who finds herself drawn to a department store clerk, played by Rooney Mara. As an immediate connection sparks between them, the innocence of their first encounter dims and their connection deepens.

The film’s cast also includes Sarah Paulson, Kyle Chandler, Jake Lacy and Carrie Brownstein.

“As Carol leaves the comfort of home to travel with Therese, an internal journey of self-discovery coincides with her new sense of space”, the official synopsis reads.

Suffragette and Steve Jobs are the two movies that have already been announced and will open and close this year’s festival.
