Will the Titans beat the Panthers today at 3:45PM ET and pick up their second straight win in the preseason? He opened the game by leading a 93-yard drive that included a 61-yard reception to Ted Ginn Jr. Cam Newton finished with 36 yards in 5-for-6 passes.
The Panthers were one of the NFL’s top rushing teams last season and the Titans defense performed well when Carolina went to the ground, holding the running attack to just 53 yards.
Tennessee’s second-year quarterback Marcus Mariota was leading a promising drive, until he threw a deep pass to the right side in the red-zone. Mariota left after that series, having completed 9-of-10 passes for 104 yards and an interception.
Newton also led a 49-yard drive that ended with Graham Gano’s 41-yard field goal. Rookie Derrick Henry also rushed 10 times for 74 yards with one score in the victory.
The Titans added a 9-yard touchdown pass from Alex Tanney to Alex Ellis with 1:55 remaining. Taylor zipped a 13-yard touchdown pass over the middle to LeSean McCoy to cap his fourth and final series.
