Wareham Public Schools Food Service Director Rob Shaheen said it gives kids an opportunity to enjoy free, nutritious meals year round.

School’s out for the summer, but the need to feed hundreds of hungry children in Springfield never ceases.

Organizers say some families rely on school meals to make sure their kids get a well-balanced diet. Last year, the Library System was visited by almost 850,000 customers who made use of its resources over 3.7 million times (a record high) and provided 2,000 informational and educational programs which served an estimated 47,000 customers. But for some students on the free or reduced school lunch programs, that might mean the end of regular, healthy meals. If you are interested in volunteering, the best approach is to find a site near you and contact them directly to offer your assistance. We’ve just launched a new feature in our free app, Fresh EBT (available for download from FreshEBT.com) that maps the location and hours of all Summer Meals locations.

“Now that I’m working in the summer, I know they’re taken care of and know they’re getting solid meals and snacks”, Martinez said.

Some of the sites will be completely open to the public while others will serve young people attending specific programs related to an organization or facility.

The Summer Meals Kick Off Program is hosted by the Georgia Food Bank.
