Carrasco pitches Indians past Mariners, 3-2

Seattle has scored three runs or fewer nine times in 13 games.

Aoki made it three singles in a row, driving in Lind and moving the other runners up one base. I wasn’t as frustrated with that.

“I got beat by walking a couple guys and getting to the meat of their order”, said Allen, who logged 1 2/3 innings and 30 pitches.

“I think the idea with what the weather is and you’re not battling the elements, I know early in the year, when it’s cold, like a lot of guys, it’s not his favorite time of year”, Indians manager Terry Francona said of Carrasco. However, when both happen on the same day, you’ll most likely end up writing a depressing recap such as this one.

Volquez (3-0) allowed five hits, walked one and struck out five, lowering his ERA to 1.46.

Successive walks to Juan Uribe and Collin Cowgill, the latter on four pitches, loaded the bases. Two hitters later, he walked Francisco Lindor to score another and give Cleveland a 3-0 lead that ended his evening.

Unlike Miley, Indians starter Carlos Carrasco was able to work past his early command issues and remain in the game.

“I tweaked it a little bit but it didn’t bother me”, Carrasco said. “I couldn’t throw strikes or competitive pitches all of a sudden”.

The Mariners continue their road trip with a visit to Anaheim tonight, where they look to continue the high gear offense from last game. By the time the fourth was over it was 5-0 Mariners, but the specter of rainout loomed over the game. His numbers from last season (11-8, 4.56 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) are misleading considering the start he had to 2015.

“It’s impressive”, manager Scott Servais said. “Carrasco is good, obviously”. The 42-year-old is one hit from tying Frank Robinson for 33rd place on the major-league career list. But going 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position doesn’t help.

Cano finally settled a game of almost four hours with his sixth home run.

He allowed a leadoff single, then walked the next batter in the second inning before retiring the next two.

Brian Shaw and Cody Allen closed out Cleveland’s victory. Cody Anderson was knocked around for five runs and couldn’t escape the fourth inning. The good news is the bullpen was lights out, as a Mike Montgomery-Tony Zych combination allowed no runs after Miley’s meltdown. The third was on Mike Napoli’s two-run pinch-hit home run to tie it 7-7 in the eighth inning.

The biggest news could be the return of Lonnie Chisenhall to the lineup.

Mariners OF Nori Aoki smashed a grounder towards the hole between third and short, allowing Lindor to range to his right, back-hand the ball with his glove, exchange it into his throwing hand and fire it to first all before the runner reached the bag. Rajai Davis then hit the first pitch that Karns threw to him over the wall in left field for a three-run homer, cutting the Seattle lead to 5-3. Walker gave up three hits and struck out six as he pitched Seattle to a slim victory.

Thursday’s result was never in doubt, as Kris Bryant hit two of five Cubs home runs, including a grand slam.

Lind singled and Chris Iannetta walked to start the second.

ATLANTA – Yasmani Grandal delivered an RBI double in the 10th inning to lift Los Angeles past Atlanta after a 10-inning win the previous night. The ball sailed over Martin’s head … but he appeared to have little chance of catching it.
