Carrie Brownstein marries two fans at her LA book event

Somebody captured the moment on film and shows Brownstein leading the ceremony while Poehler plays the piano in the background. However, last night’s reading in Pasadena, California’s Central Presbyterian Church became so much more than just a literary event. Brownstein, partially prepared for the surprise event due to a pre-planned wedding she was asked to officiate, said a few words of encouragement. Amy Poehler also happened to be present, as Brownstein’s guest mediator for the Q&A.

Carrie, would you marry… us?

Not everyone will get married in their lifetime, and maybe that’s because not everybody gets a chance to have their marriage officiated by Carrie Brownstein and Amy Poehler. Brownstein graciously agreed and Poehler scurried to get together flowers and also celebrated the occasion with a very unrehearsed rendition of Greensleeves on the piano.

Brownstein and comedy partner Fred Armisen recently revealed that TV series Portlandia will end in 2018. “We’re rooting for you the way that we root for ourselves, the way that we root for love to always win out over despair”.

Brownstein then pronounced them married, the newlyweds kissed, and the crowd of 500 strangers burst into cheers.

If you need a little warm fuzzy pick-me-up today, we highly recommend tuning into this impromptu ceremony.

As she reveals in her excellent new memoir, Brownstein’s life wasn’t all sunshine.
