Carson Palmer’s off night caused by Raiders, holding ball too long

That’s exactly what the Arizona Cardinals did in their 30-23 win over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday night.

“The milk man delivered today, ” Arians said. He had a drop of an easy pass in the fourth quarter and two other passes went off his hands. And safety Nate Allen intercepted Palmer twice, including on the Cardinals’ opening possession. “My level of expectation is higher now because guys have been in the system longer”, Palmer said. “Just wasn’t good enough”. “We had a great drive going, it sucks that it had to end on something like that”. He capped it with a 4-yard TD pass to Kris Durham with 2:18 left and Oakland tied the game when McGloin connected with Brice Butler on the 2-point conversion.

Quarterback Derek Carr refused to call it a step back, but acknowledged, “there were definitely some things we have to correct”. This RB can run, he can catch, he has all the tools but will need to work on his blocking if he wants that serious playing time. “We felt like we left a lot out there”.

The Raiders lost starting right guard Menelik Watson for the season with a torn Achilles.

“The defense played really outstanding football, in particular in the first half”, said Del Rio. “I like the tempo of it. It’s gone really well the whole time we’ve been out here”. The AZ Cardinals have managed to score a 19 points in each of their preseason games, going 0-2 to begin the preseason. He capped the drive with a well-placed 18-yard touchdown pass to tight end Scott Chandler.

Carr and the offense marched down the field on several attempts, but he never made it in the end zone. Watson announced the injury on his Twitter account late in the game. If the defense plays like they did last night then they are going to be one of the best defensive teams in the league, unfortunately the opposite is true for the offense.

Sims, the undrafted free agent from Division II Winston-Salem State, continues to push 2014 fourth-rounder Thomas for the Cardinals’ third-string spot.

Mario Edwards Jr. had two sacks Sunday and now has 2½ in this exhibition season.

The offenses came to life once both coaches turned to their backups.

Cardinals: RB Chris Johnson did not play as he is nursing a hamstring injury. But there are strong indications Johnson will make the final 53-man roster of the Cardinals because he was able to provide positive impression on his teammates during the training camp. It begs the question, if the Raiders don’t have a big role for him, might they consider trading him? Johnson hopes to see his first game action since he was signed. Wide receiver Michael Floyd definitely won’t play against the Raiders, recovering from dislocated fingers, and he might not be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. It was third-and-9 and Palmer took off up the middle of the field – diving headfirst to make sure he picked up 10 yards and a first down. The timing wasn’t there.

She said he had “just gone with my intuition on what the right thing was and to be true to myself and my beliefs that these guys needed to know they were important as people, not just football players.”. I’ll learn from that obviously.

Possible future joint practices — just not in AZ
