Carson Wentz makes National Football League debut for Eagles against RG3’s Browns
Wentz said he was lying down in a cornfield hunting geese in New Jersey when Pederson called him Saturday morning to tell he’s been promoted from No. 3 quarterback to starter.

WIN-WIN: The Browns own Philadelphia’s first-round pick in 2017 as part of the trade for No. 2, so beating the Eagles is a double win because they want them to finish as low as possible in the standings.
After Bradford’s departure, the Eagles announced that Wentz will be taking over his role as the team’s starting QB.
With a hairline fracture of the rib, Wentz might not run as much as he would normally, Nassib said. “I’ve been preparing, even though I haven’t been playing, I’ve been preparing as though I were all the way through”. That means Johnson could possibly play the first four games or so if he decides to go that route.
Obviously, there will be plenty of emotions and butterflies for Wentz as Sunday approaches. I wanted him as my starting quarterback and I wanted him here on the team. In fact, I don’t even think that even factors into his thinking, ” Pederson said. “The way he led the huddle on Monday at practice, just what he’s done the last couple of days just getting himself ready to go shows you the type of leader and the type of person he is”. “It doesn’t matter where you come from, if you can play, you can play”. They got rid of a quarterback who hasn’t been great and they didn’t need anymore once they drafted Carson Wentz.
Because the Browns know what they’re talking about, apparently. Since then, he has been seen on sidelines at practice, studying situations and occasionally throwing lightly. “It’s something that we believe in, I believe in”. But during his entire time with the university’s team, he became accustomed to drills and plays that are very similar to what National Football League teams use. He’s such a long guy, it can he like Colin Kaepernick-long at times.
Wentz injured his ribs in his National Football League debut and missed the final three preseason games.
“We have to make judgments on the individual players and we’re not always going to be right”, told Grossi “But in this particular case, we just didn’t feel it was necessarily the right bet to make for us at this time”. And we’ve harped on takeaways, but now those takeaways need to turn into scores.
The Eagles traded high-priced cornerback Byron Maxwell to Miami in a deal that also included linebacker Kiko Alonso. Carson Wentz is the rookie No. 2 overall pick. He studies. He pays attention to detail. One day at a time with him. “It’s just an inherent confidence I have about my game and myself”.
“He’s a dual threat, but I heard he’s a little banged up right now, so I doubt he’ll be running the ball very much”, Nassib added. “With coach Reich, coach Flipp, it has all been positive”. On Sunday we’ll get our first look at whether Wentz was worth it.
There have been teams that succeeded behind rookie quarterbacks – Atlanta with Matt Ryan and Baltimore with Joe Flacco in 2008, Indianapolis with Andrew Luck and Seattle with Russell Wilson in 2012, to name a few – but I just don’t see it with the Eagles.

“But”, the Browns’ first-year head coach continued, “at that time we felt it was best to go in a different direction”. You just have to trust what you have been doing.
