Carson Wentz named starter for the Eagles

As if the Philadelphia Eagles weren’t already in the headlines enough, they’re at it again. Carson’s ready for this and it’s about him now.

Wentz will certainly need time to develop.

GORDON WAITS: Perhaps the most perplexing player in football, wide receiver Josh Gordon will sit out the first four games serving his latest drug suspension. And in that one, he’d broken a couple ribs. Now, the North Dakota State standout could be the team’s starting quarterback as soon as next week. They have a good team.

It all adds up to must-see TV in Northeast Ohio, and that was before Philadelphia head coach Doug Pederson announced that Carson Wentz will start the game at quarterback for the Eagles. Trading Bradford showed that the Eagles organization has all the faith in the world that Wentz can lead this football team. So that’s what the franchise did, effectively dealing the right to take Wentz to the Philadelphia Eagles for a bundle of draft choices. “It’s something that we believe in”. “It’s something that we believe in, I believe in”.

The Vikings should just start Hill until Bradford’s ready. They play in Week 1.

Roseman is turning the page. Obviously, when you lose your quarterback in Sam, it could be mixed emotion. Smallwood missed most of training camp and the preseason with injuries.

Lying in the middle of a field in New Jersey hunting geese with his family, Carson Wentz got the phone call that would completely alter his rookie season. I will learn from my mistakes and keep getting better. Carson Wentz is the rookie No. 2 overall pick. But that was where Wentz belonged, apparently.

FOUND DORIAL: The Eagles acquired talented WR Dorial Green-Beckham from Tennessee after the Titans gave up on the 2015 second-round pick. Still, there was a risk.

Remember: He was 5-foot-8 and 125 pounds when he entered Century High School in Bismarck, N.D., and did not become the varsity starter until his senior season. Since then, he has been seen on sidelines at practice, studying situations and occasionally throwing lightly. Those were good questions. He had a businesslike conversation with Chase Daniel, who will remain the backup, and they discussed the week ahead without any awkwardness about Wentz’s leaping Daniel on the depth chart.

The NFL’s Network’s Mike Garafolo confirmed Caplan’s report nearly instantly, and noted Daniel is not too happy about the idea of Wentz assuming the starting role. But that pass has been sent through the shredder.

Sunday provides plenty of storylines, including the “what if” scenario had Cleveland drafted Wentz instead. Not all at once. In a given year, there may be two or three NFL-ready quarterbacks at the college level.

Cleveland meanwhile, will be starting Robert Griffin III under center. Andrew Luck. It can happen. Wentz will still look to Daniel and the veteran will still be there to help in any way he can. That’s just the stakes that the Eagles have made a decision to play for, willingly, openly.

“This guy is a proven victor, and he’s proven it all the way up through college, and I fully expect him to do it at this level”, Pederson said. “This stage is not too big for him”. He can handle this.

As for the Eagles, if you are taking a very shortsighted view, they probably lost their slim chance to make the playoffs this season. They’ll spend long hours together over the next few days talking over protections and working to get on the same page.
