Even though Carson Wentz may not have put up wonderful numbers, he still impressed from a couple different standpoints. In two weeks, the Colts will play in their third preseason game, an August 27th contest against the Philadelphia Eagles at home. Dye averaged 24.5 yards on two returns while Bell picked up 16 yards and Bernard Reedy came up with 18 on one return. In fact, Tampa Bay’s single-game low in rushing yardage last season, with Koetter running the offense, was 57 yards.
Martin opened the game with a very effective six-yard run up the middle, but he obviously didn’t stick around long enough to get into a rhythm. Bradford has stated that he feels more ready this year.
“Some of those [runs] were nakeds, designed plays and some were just improvising”, Wentz said. Wentz was slow to get up, and was seen bending over trying to catch his breath while the play was being reviewed. Well we all hope so. If he comes back before the regular season, it’s a good sign that he’s fully healed. With all of this being said what if Sam Bradford struggles mightily or get injured? Still, the Eagles and their fans did need to see numerous things that Wentz would put on display in just over a quarter of second-half work. The reason Daniel was brought here is because he played under Doug Pederson in Kansas City and knows the offense. The Eagles’ receivers and the offensive line didn’t do Daniel any favors. But, Daniel has no pocket presence and he can not overcome the fact that he is only 6 feet tall.

Tuesday marks the end of training camp, though it’s unclear if Pederson will change the practice schedule for the remainder of the preseason.
Although Wentz could return before the end of the preseason, it wouldn’t be prudent for the Eagles to rush him back either. That meant the four preseason games, ideally, were going to be the only opportunities for him to get into games. Odd, but Pederson showed courage trusting Wentz … then showed none of it by demanding one more unnecessary exhibition-game look at a 36-year-old punter who couldn’t lose his job for anything shy of pickpocketing. But look at the Jaguars in 2014. At the half, Dirk Koetter said that the Bucs put up the worst special teams display he’d ever seen. But Henne was so bad that it forced Bortles into action.
Wentz has already become a fan favorite at Lincoln Financial Field. That changed after Wentz underwent the medical examination.

The Eagles can only hope that one day arrives sooner rather than later. Now that’s not going to happen. One of those turnovers came on an interception from CJ Smith, who was Wentz’s teammate on NDSU’s national championship team last January.
