Carter homers, Nelson gets rare win as Brewers beat Rockies

Rockies starter Chad Bettis walked a season-high seven and the Rockies offense could not get things going in a series-opening loss to the Brewers. Villar moved to third on Keon Broxton’s grounder to second and scored when Daniel Descalso kicked Ryan Braun’s grounder to short with the infield back.

Nieuwenhuis made it 3-1 with a two-run single to shallow center before Bettis got out of the inning.

A two-run home run from Chris Carter and a Scooter Gennett RBI single spared the Milwaukee Brewers from the first 0-7 road trip in franchise history.

Bettis was able to work through the fifth without giving up anymore runs but really struggled with his command all night, walking seven batters in total. Chad Bettis fell to 10-and-7 after allowing three earned runs and issuing seven walks during his five-inning start. He singled and stole second again, his third steal of the year and second of the game … it would seem the Rockies speedy rookie is starting to get the green light to run when he gets to first base. He wasn’t hit especially hard in the frame, but the lead-off single from Milwaukee’s Jonathan Villar ended up being more of a rally-starter than Dahl’s for Colorado.

Carter’s solo homer to left in the third, his 30th of the season, off Bettis extended Milwaukee’s lead to 4-1.

“David created some runs with his legs”.

“They had a big inning working, for sure”, Counsell said.

Dahl, who has reached base safely in nine straight games, entered Monday’s contest with just one stolen base on the season.

“I honestly felt really good, like I could have gone back out there”, he said. Jordan Lyles came on and preserved the rest of the bullpen completely, doing everything in his job requirement by keeping the Brewers scoreless over three innings.

Rockies: RHP Scott Oberg was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 20, with axillary artery thrombosis in his right arm. It showed some clots, ” manager Walt Weiss said. RHP Carlos Estevez was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque to replace Oberg on the active roster.

Brewers: RHP Junior Guerra, who has been on the disabled list since August 8 with right elbow inflammation, will make a minor league rehab start before rejoining the Brewers.

Rockies: RHP Jon Gray (8-6, 4.69) will start against the Brewers for the first time.
