British actress Noma Dumezweni has been chosen to play Hermione Granger in the West End theater production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, joining co-stars Paul Thornley as Ron Weasley and Jamie Parker as Harry Potter, BuzzFeed reports.

His youngest, Albus, struggles with the family legacy and both he and his dad both learn that sometimes darkness comes from unexpected places. She won a coveted Olivier Award for her performance in A Raisin In The Sun in 2005.

Further casting for the play will be revealed at a later date.

“We’ve been working with actors since the beginning of this year, but the characters are the stars of this – so I don’t think we’ll be saying a hot Hollywood actor will be playing Harry Potter”.

Written in part by Harry Potter series author J.K. Rowling, the production is being billed as “the eighth story”, set 19 years after the conclusion of the seventh book.

Noma Dumezweni’s casting as Hermione has raised some eyebrows, since she’s the first woman of color to play the character.

Jamie Parker is now playing Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls at the Savoy Theatre, a role he previously performed at Chichester Festival Theatre where he has also been seen in Drama, Holes in the Skin, Seagulls, The Coffee House, The Commuter and The Gondoliers.

“I’m so excited with the choice of casting for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”.

Previews begin on 7 June, with both plays set to open on 30 July.

Thornley, 40, who will p lay her husband Ron, is known for three series of Life Begins opposite Caroline Quentin and roles in Doc Martin and the film adaptation of Les Miserables.
