‘Castle’ Ending After 8 Seasons: Read Stana Katic’s Emotional Goodbye
The title of that series finale: “Maybe You’ll Appreciate Me Someday”.

ABC had a busy day of shopping, announcing, among others, Shondaland period drama Still Star-Crossed, Mark Gordon legal drama Conviction, and Imaginary Mary, a live action/CGI hybrid comedy from the team at The Goldbergs. Fans have known that Stana Katic was on the verge of being fired since Season 7, but the Castle bosses held on after the backlash on Grey’s Anatomy when McDreamy was killed.
“Castle” stars Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle, Stana Katic as NYPD Detective Kate Beckett, Tamala Jones as Medical Examiner Lanie Parish, Jon Huertas as NYPD Detective Javier Esposito, Seamus Dever as NYPD Detective Kevin Ryan, Molly Quinn as Alexis Castle with Susan Sullivan as Martha Rodgers.
Castle will not return for a ninth season at ABC and the season finale on May 16 will serve as the series ender.
Stana also posted a message to the cast and crew of the show, thanking them for their support. “Big Hug x Stana”, she wrote in the handwritten letter shared on Twitter. The superhero series ran for two seasons and followed Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) as she led the double-life of a secret agent in the 1940s. That means the Season 8 finale, which airs Monday, will actually be the series finale, and fans may be in for a grim ending. Even though Katic is leaving the series, “Castle” has always been a staple on ABC’s schedule with a rabid fanbase.
I am SO grateful for it ALLð #Castle- Toks Olagundoye (@ToksOlagundoye) May 12, 2016#Castle was a cornerstone of my life. “Thank you all”, Fillion tweeted Friday. A safe environment to learn. “They will not speak when they are off set, and this has been going on for seasons now”.

Like Nashville, Castle had been rumored to be on the bubble of cancellation previously and perhaps the negative buzz around the Katic/Jones situation caused ABC to think twice about the show’s future.
