‘Castle’ season 8, ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ premiere at lows; ‘Blindspot
CBS’ The Big Bang Theory and NBC’s The Voice helped boost ratings for the premieres of Life in Pieces and Blindspot, respectively on Monday, the first night of the 2015-16 TV season.

ABC: Pending any National Football League related adjustments, a new Dancing with the Stars (11.6 mil/1.8) shed some 2 million viewers while dipping three tenths in the demo – though to be fair the series’ week-ago opener didn’t have to compete with such a strong group of competitors. Fox had a particularly rough night, with “Gotham” (1.6) getting less than half the show’s premiere audience from past year and “Minority Report” (1.1) turning out to be an almost-instant flop.
Will add substantial viewership via time-shifting – last season’s Monday’s “Voice” grew +25% in 18-49 rating (from a 3.22 to a 4.01) going from L+SD to L+7 and 2.1 million viewers overall (11.9 million to 14.0 million).
Blindspot had 10.6 million viewers and a 3.1 rating among grown-ups 18-49, effectively beating the greater part of its 10 p.m. rivals. The latter show hauled in 11.5 million total viewers last night. Minority Report had a 1.1 rating/3 share with 3.1 million viewers, though scifi dramas typically do considerably better in the time-shift.

In recent seasons, same-day viewing numbers have declined, as more viewers watch recordings later or view on other platforms. “Big Bang” scored a 10.6 household rating. LIP’s viewer retention was a little higher that the demo, 65%. It was down -31% from last season’s debut (3.2) but that debut followed a highly rated original episode of Big Bang (5.3) at 8:30 PM. The premiere did not feature co-lead Stana Katic, we’ll see if there will be a bump when she rejoins the show. The return of “Castle” at 10 posted a 1.2/4 – down 43 percent from last season’s premiere, hitting a series low – and 7.1 million viewers. The matchup between the Colts and the Jets beat all comers with over a 9 rating. As usual, ESPN looks poised to win Monday night overall.
