Castroneves still chasing fourth Indianapolis 500 victory
Series points leader Simon Pagenaud, once again running near the front, was penalized for an unsafe release after his stop and sent to the back.

“Ol’ Ray” is Ray Harroun, victor of the inaugural Indianapolis 500 on May 30, 1911.
Andretti is like the 32 other drivers in the field in their desire to become the 100th face on the famed Borg-Warner trophy. “I think well be in good shape for the race”.
Roger Penske was optimistic the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 would be one to remember. Nigel Mansell left F1 as the reigning world champion and came to Indy, only to fall short in two starts. Dixon won the second race of the series this season in Phoenix, and has an Indy 500 win under his belt from back in 2008. But not this year.
Late in the race Hunter-Reay and yet another Andretti team mate Townsend Bell were the two fastest cars on the track when Mikhail Aleshin spun into a wall, a crash that brought out the yellow flag and triggered a stampede into the pits. It was definitely really cool to see all four teams [Chip Ganassi Racing has four cars in the event] going at it. There were probably 20 people helping to change the engine.
“I came here to do something, an appearance, and I came to the track but I went to the museum – that’s as far as I went”, he said. That’s just the way it goes when a driver wins the prestigious event.
The good news is that there is an Indianapolis 500 live stream, but it is not coming to every device or to every area. I think I’m the only (celebrity) that stays for the victory dinner. “It’s been a amusing start to the race, so I hope we’ve got all our bad stuff out of the way”.
On Sunday May 29th the Race starts at 12 PM eastern after an hour of pre-show commentary and video. No 40-year-old driver has won since Eddie Cheever Jr.in 1998. Things have come a long way since then and the racing is a lot tighter – in effect it’s now a sprint over 200 laps.
Buddy Lazier listened to the Indy 500 on the radio as a child, using it as a barometer for the official start of summer.
Dixon is well aware a few drivers may suffer from red mist when the start flag is waved.
Helio Castroneves, of Brazil, watches during a practice session for the Indianapolis 500 auto race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Monday, May 23, 2016. “No matter how you chalk it up, it’s got Indianapolis 500 relevance written all over it”. It’s all about compromise, really, and making some quick decisions on your feet.
“Hell, I’m just glad I’m still around”.
The Andretti family has 71 starts and has led 28 races among five family members. Their cars have been better when the weather has been warm, the track is slick and the cars are harder to handle.
Everything viewers need to know about watching the Indianapolis 500.
“It’s like anything, you’ve got to pick your battles and, as the race wears on, small things may start happening with the vehicle, like a bit of under steer or over steer. It kinda freaks you out a little bit”. He said, ‘You’re not singing that.’ This is 5 minutes before race time. Castroneves took the lead with two laps to go as Andretti began to fade, only for Hunter-Reay to overcome him on the final lap. “It’s definitely going to be a dog fight right down to the end”.
At least he has one big thing in his favour – his fitness. In a recent Sports Illustrated article, Dixon was ranked the 33rd fittest sportsman ahead of the likes of National Basketball Association star Stephen Curry, five top NFL players and UFC hero Conor McGregor.

There was plenty of passing during Friday’s practice session, which took place under sunny skies and with temperatures soaring into the mid-80s – similar to what is in the forecast for race day. Sentimental favourite will be James Hinchliffe, who made pole a year after a massive crash that nearly ended his career.
