The cream-and-white tabby was brought to the Humane Society on Monday after it was found hiding beneath a deck along Carlisle Highway, between Vermontville and Bellevue, authorities said.

The cat suffered lung damage but, miraculously, the bolt missed vital organs that would have resulted in immediate death.

The cat was transported to the Capital Area Humane Society, where it was evaluated and then transferred to a surgical center.

“We determined it needed surgery and so we sent the cat off to an alternate location to have a surgical procedure done to remove the arrow from his chest”, Willson said.

Anyone with information on who shot the cat is asked to call Eaton County Animal Control at 517- 543-5755 or CAHS at 517-626-6060.

A Michigan cat is recovering after surgery and it’s hoped the animal will make a full recovery.

An investigation into the incident continues, the sheriff’s office reported.

Officials believe the animal was used as crossbow target practice, and the person wasn’t actively hunting.

“This type of offense is a felony”, Sheriff Reich said.

“We’ll start off with a $1,000 reward”, said Julia Willson, president and CEO of CAHS. She had last seen her cat on Saturday.
