Cause of Death Released in Blountstown Woman’s Death Outside of Hospital
A woman died Tuesday after being forcibly removed from a hospital in Blountstown, Florida, when she allegedly refused to leave upon being discharged.

Only a few hours earlier, Dawson had arrived at Calhoun Liberty Hospital via ambulance Sunday night after experiencing stomach pain along with the woman telling she was having difficulty breathing.
Police escorted Dawson from Liberty Calhoun Hospital when she allegedly refused to leave after being discharged by the doctors.
Does a hospital bear culpability for the death of Florida woman, Barbara Dawson after forcing her to leave a hospital?
Charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct, she was handcuffed and escorted from the hospital by police.
Hospital and law enforcement officials released their own version of events which included Dawson allegedly screaming obscenities to the hospital staff about her treatment. Officers say she was escorted outside, handcuffed, and collapsed at the back door of the police cruiser as the officer was trying to put her into the vehicle. Dawson’s family says she was pleading for medical care and her oxygen tank and neither were provided.
She was readmitted to the hospital where she later was pronounced dead.
The NAACP held an emergency meeting on Tuesday to consider the incident.
“Even the early facts should cause grave concern for her family but also grave concern for the public”, he said.
The responding officer was polite to Dawson, and told her she was free to receive medical care elsewhere, Mallory said.
And the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation from Blountstown police.
Some of those visits, too, had ended in conflict – Donar told the Democrat that staff at Calhoun Liberty had called the police on Dawson before, and once kicked her off the premises when she brought a friend in for treatment. During this time the right side handcuff was removed from Mrs. Dawson, while she was being monitored. “They got the doctor to come out there and get a pulse of her and they couldn’t get no pulse”.

Police were called shortly after 4:45 a.m and Dawson’s oxygen tank was cut off. Angela Donar, Dawson’s aunt who was at the scene, claims an employee walked into the lobby where Dawson was seated and used a pair of scissors to cut off the oxygen, notes the report. But family members told the Democrat the nursing staff “banned” her from the hospital. He says they won’t have final answers until autopsy results come in.
