But the decision has triggered tensions.
Pointing out that this is not the first time that the state is complying with such orders of the Supreme Court, he recalled similar action was taken when Deve Gowda, S M Krishna and Jagadish Shettar were chief ministers.
Attempts to resolve the Cauvery dispute have so far focused on resource sharing while ignoring equity and efficiency issues. It has withdrawn 30 tmcft from their four major reservoirs as on September 9, 2016, besides through anicut channels, medium and minor reservoir systems and minor irrigation, the letter said.
Protests are still going on against the apex court’s verdict that Karnataka should release 15,000 cusecs of Cauvery water daily to TN for 10 days.
After almost a 3 hours long all party meeting, The chief minister of Karnataka – Siddaramaiah told reporters on Tuesday that the state will release water from KRS Dam as directed by the Supreme Court of India.
Shivaraj Kumar has extended his support to the Karnataka bandh call given by the pro-Kannada organisations and farmer groups.
“We know that the Supreme Court is the highest court in the country”.
While the Tamil Nadu government had approached the Committee yesterday with its demand for more water, the Karnataka government too wrote to the panel with its grievances on releases of water. He appealed to farmers to maintain peace and tranquillity and not to cause any damage to public property. All KSRTC bus services towards Mysore were suspended on Tuesday as protesters have blocked the highway connecting Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Karnataka state cable TV operators association has also chose to not air Tamil TV channels in the state on Friday. With political parties also supporting the day-long shutdown, security has been stepped up and additional forces have been deployed across the state to maintain law and order.

The Cauvery Supervisory Committee, which has replaced the Cauvery River Authority to implement the order of the tribunal, would also be apprised of the difficulties.
