Cavs Shooting Guard JR Smith to Test Free Agency

Last year, Smith opted out of his deal in hopes of landing a bigger deal somewhere and when that didn’t happen with the Cavaliers, he ended up having to re-sign for less than he could have made. He’s coming off of setting the franchise record for most three-pointers made in a season with 204, placing him seventh in the National Basketball Association. Williams is now a third-string point guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Smith will become a free agent on July 1.

Not only is Smith’s floor spacing and defensive much needed for the Cavaliers, there is nobody on the Cavaliers-or arguably any attainable player in the NBA-who can do what the 30-year-old does for his team. Though the NBA Finals is not yet over for the Cavs, it seems like Mo William has already decided his plan in the offseason.

In the playoffs, Smith is averaging 11.4 points per game and shooting 44% from three.

Williams averaged 8.2 points and 2.4 assists during the regular season.

Luckily for the Cavaliers, though, Smith has made it clear that he prefers to stay with the wine and gold.

“This is where I want to be”, Smith said. “I love them and my teammates”.

Early in the 2015-16 National Basketball Association season, Mo Williams started the first 14 games when Cavaliers star guard Kyrie Irving was still recovering from an injury.
