The agency had earlier registered two separate cases against the then Chief Engineer Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway and his family members for alleged corruption and amassing assets disproportionate to the known sources of income.

The engineer was very close to the powers that be in the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government and after a brief suspension endeared himself to the present Samajwadi Party (SP) government so much so that the Akhilesh Yadav government went to the Supreme Court to shield him.

Noida: Yadav Singh, the former Noida chief engineer who is accused of orchestrating a massive scam in giving out tenders and amassing wealth disproportionate with his income, was arrested by the CBI on Thursday. “The FIR ended in closure and a final report filed in the court of Special Session Judge, Noida by the local police in January 2014 which was accepted by the court in November 2014”, the CBI said.

“It was further alleged that whereas the questioned work for underground cable like had already started from September 2011 while the contract was signed in December 2011 and that 60% of work had already been completed before signing the contract”.

The sources said another company NKG Infrastructure was allegedly given work of about 34.87 crore without any tender by Singh.

CBI had registered a case against Yadav Singh on allegations of criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery and provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act against him. “He had executed projects worth around Rs 8,000 crore in Noida in the last 12 years”, a CBI officer said. “With Assembly elections in UP next year, Singh’s arrest could well give many a sleepless night”, she said.
