CBS head defends ‘satisfying’ ‘Good Wife’ finale

“[As content owners], we get paid for all of this”. The one thing we really have a hard time buying is Tassler’s claim that she had not heard that people were upset about learning that the final Alicia / Kalinda scene was not as it seemed. “And the year that Robert and Michelle have planned is as exciting as all the previous years, even more so”. “CSI“, which debuted in 2000, will wrap with a two-hour finale on September 27.

Tassler said that CBS is facing a “seminal moment in latenight”, with Stephen Colbert poised to take over the 11:35 p.m. slot next month. CBS’ family of networks also includes Showtime and The CW, but most of Tassler’s presentation highlighted the 5 freshman series on CBS.

She also singled out the performance of James Corden’s “Late Late Show“, which she said has “blown past our expectations”.

Nina Tassler kicked off the final week of press tour with a nod to TV’s increasingly fractured landscape.

“There isn’t a set equation except the fact that the ownership puts us in a real prime position in terms of monetizing across the board, allows us to explore other platforms”, Tassler stressed that the company is getting revenues from iTunes, where CBS-owned The Good Wife is No. 1, Tassler said, CBS All Access and other on-demand platforms for its series though did not provide details on the size of compensation compared to traditional TV advertising. “From his successful network debut at May’s upfront to his summer promos and podcasts, “[Colbert] brings nonstop creative energy and intelligence to every part of the process”.

“Our advertising continues to increase”, says Tassler, chairman of CBS Entertainment, when looking at its live airings plus seven times of time-shifting.

We are still excited about the future of the series, mostly because it is one of the most well-written network TV series out there. In late night, “ratings are important, but your digital footprint” is now vital, she said. She also says the season finale was a “very satisfying” ending for the two characters’ relationship.
