CC Sabathia almost involved in Toronto street brawl

And because we live in an age of smart phones and YouTube, there’s video of the whole thing on the paparazzi website TMZ. “Just a bad decision on my part”.

TMZ Sports obtained video footage of the altercation, and according to the video, Sabathia had to be restrained. Manager Joe Girardi said the team had already planned to alter their rotation before he became aware of the incident and that it had no effect on the switch.

Sabathia said it is common to get heckled while out in public, though he acknowledged this time the heckling was personal.

“You have to be more careful than you’ve ever been”, Girardi said.

As far as I know, it was Erik Boland who first reported the rotation shuffle. There isn’t. Anything that happens. After he got into the cab, the melee spilled into the street.

On Monday, the Yankees pitcher said (via the Associated Press), “I just flipped out, you know”. “I’m just glad I ended up getting in the cab before everything that went down”. It was a bad night.

The fight happened outside EFS Nightclub on King St. West and Bathurst Street.

“You don’t hide”, Sabathia said. I go to dinner. Sometimes it’s a bad night. They got a bad reaction.

Sabathia (4-9, 5.23 ERA) initially was scheduled to pitch Monday, but his start was moved back to Tuesday because the Yankees wanted to give each starter an extra day of rest. Girardi insisted the decision had nothing to do with Friday’s incident. “Yeah, I am”, he said. “… We figured this would probably be the best time to do it”.
