Abdeslam is walking calmly with his hands in his pockets alongside Attou – later arrested and charged for helping Abdeslam escape the crime scene.

The footage was shot at 9.45am on November 14, the day after the terror attacks in Paris in which 130 people were killed in a series of coordinated shootings and suicide bomb attacks.

Salah’s brother Brahim was killed in the attacks, detonating a suicide vest outside a busy cafe near the Bataclan theatre. The man with him is Hamza Attou, now in custody after driving to Paris on the night of 13 to 14 November to rescue his friend.

Federal prosecutor Eric Van der Sypt said authorities chose to release the information after more than a month to dispel inaccuracies published by some Belgian media. Refusing to disclose specifics, the prosecutor said evidence acquired in the apartment “has helped us get further in the investigation”.

Who were the Paris attackers?

Last Friday, Belgian prosecutors found the fingerprints of Salah Abdeslam during a raid in another flat in Brussels, the prosecutor’s office said.

The Paris attacks are believed to have been at least partly planned in Brussels.

Attou and fellow getaway accomplice Mohammed Amri were subsequently arrested by Belgian police.

The property had been rented under a false name that might have been used by a person already in custody related to the Paris attacks, officials added. Their belongings tested positive for ammonium nitrate, a chemical used to manufacture explosives.
