She was never admitted to the hospital, is not pregnant and there is no reason to believe she contracted Zika in Chicago, said Presence CEO Dr. Roberta Luskin-Hawk. “We understand that the occurrence of fetal malformation, fetal loss or miscarriage, or a child with a birth defect, is something that can be devastating to a family”. There have been a lot of questions surrounding the recent outbreak of Zika virus. For the most part, the best way to avoid coming in contact with the mosquitoes carrying the Zika virus is to wear long sleeves and trousers, and use repellent and mosquito nets.

Zika has been reported previously in Africa, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands.

Because of the continuing threat of the Zika virus, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has cautioned pregnant women against traveling to the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, which is worst hit by the outbreak.
