According to the CDC, the complete halting of Zika transmission in Wynwood is the direct result of both aerial and street-level pesticide sprays.

Scott called on the US government to approve spending to arrest any future spread of the virus in Florida and elsewhere, including funds for mosquito abatement, education and testing for Zika. Health officials said that over the past several weeks, mosquito control workers there have seen fewer of the insects, the main culprits in spreading the virus.

Miami became the first USA city where Zika was transmitted locally by mosquitoes. Officials are using controversial aerial mosquito spraying and door-to-door checks of buildings to remove standing water that serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Floridians and visitors are encouraged to travel to Wynwood to visit the local restaurants and businesses that have been affected by the Zika virus, and Scott will be in Wynwood to participate in the event.
