Congress is giving the Aedes aegypti mosquito every chance to gain an advantage in the fight against the Zika virus.

“The Public Health Department recently reported 23 cases of Zika Virus in the state of IL”, says Dr. Orakzai. At times, it shows no symptoms, but it can cause serious birth defects in children whose mothers were infected before the child’s birth.
Glynn County does not have any reported cases.
As a result, the Declaration of Public Health Emergency now includes Lake – the 26th county included in the declaration, spokeswoman Noelda Lopez said.
Researchers also hope to study what factors provide the greatest risk for infection. “The County Health Officer is tasked with compiling a meeting summary and developing action plans which are submitted to the state health office in Tallahassee”. Travel associated Zika cases in the USA and DC are now more than 1,130 and 14 of these cases are thought to have been sexually transmitted, but so far no cases of mosquito-local transmission.
In the first travel confirmed case of Zika, health officials would not disclose which Country the Fresno woman traveled to, only that she traveled there within the last three weeks.
This, despite the fact, that more than 900 Zika cases have been reported in the US, and more than 2,000 in American Samoa, Puerto Rico and the American Virgin Islands.
Karen Holbrook, the county’s deputy health officer, said pregnant women should avoid travel to areas where there is known Zika transmission.
Florida residents are urged to drain standing water and cover windows with screens to limit mosquito interactions.
Lake County spokeswoman Elisha Pappacoda previously said the best repellents contain DEET.
No one knows exactly when the first such mosquito will transmit the virus inside the US, but it might happen before lawmakers manage to pass a bill to pay for its prevention and control.
According to the CDC press release, pregnant women are advised to not travel to areas with Zika.
CDC recommends that a pregnant woman with a history of Zika virus and her provider should consider additional ultrasounds. The virus can cause microcephaly, a condition where the brain doesn’t develop properly. The other case was locally acquired through sexual contact.
