CDC Says Chipotle Mexican Grill Linked To Another E. Coli Outbreak
Earlier this month, Boston’s Public Health Commission also received multiple reports of gastrointestinal illness from 136 people who consumed food at the city’s Chipotle restaurant, according to a statement.

Despite Chipotle’s efforts to rebuild goodwill and fix its tarnished image, that’s proving to be a pretty tall order, as evidenced by this new outbreak report.
Three of those victims are in Oklahoma. Funnily enough, all this makes us want to do is head on over and grab a burrito bowl for dinner. The agency warns it could take some time before singling what food contains the toxic E.coli strain.
Kansas Department of Health and Environment spokeswoman Sara Belfry said Monday the Kansas resident ate at a Chipotle location in Shawnee, 11805 Shawnee Mission Parkway, the week of November 23.
The most recent person confirmed to be part of the outbreak became ill on November 3, according to a December 22 update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They said there are no reported cases at Tulsa Chipotle locations at this time. (CMG,CMG-B) is once again in the news, for another E. coli outbreak that has affected a total of five people in the three states of Kansas, North Dakota and Oklahoma.
Shares of Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE:CMG) opened at 522.01 on Tuesday.
“We have indicated before that we expected that we may see additional cases stemming from this, and CDC is now reporting some additional cases”.
The CDC has not identified the ingredient that sickened people in the larger outbreak, which has already scared away customers and caused Chipotle’s sales to plummet 16 percent in November.
“We don’t know if it’s the same food item or related food item or completely different in each [outbreak, ]” Schaffner told ABC News today. The company also is improving internal training to ensure that all employees are able to maintain food safety standards. “We are now in the process of implementing those programs”, Chipotle Communications Director Chris Arnold said.
“At this point, even rational and informed consumers could potentially be given reason to pause when choosing Chipotle over the plethora of fast-casual competition in the marketplace”, Ivankoe writes.
He lowered his projections, saying Chipotle’s same-store sales for the quarter will fall 12 percent, a deeper slide than the 9.5-percent decline he had predicted earlier in the month.
