CDC Statement on World AIDS Day
On World AIDS Day on Tuesday, Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said Taiwan had recorded 2,134 new cases of HIV infection this year, with 85 percent resulting from sex among gay men, 10 percent coming through heterosexual sex and 3 percent resulting from drug injections.

World AIDS Day was observed yesterday and is held annually on the 1st December as an opportunity for people across the world to untie in the fight against HIV, to show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate those who have died.
Of the 1.2 million Americans living with HIV, one out of every four is 55 or older.
De Marco and other advocates further cited a need for housing programs for homeless people being treated for HIV or AIDS, saying homelessness disrupts their medical care and also makes them vulnerable to being sexually exploited and spreading HIV.
The number of adolescent deaths from AIDS has also tripled over the last 15 years, especially in Africa where AIDS is the number one cause of death among adolescents and the second among adolescents globally.
“We know there are over 350 cases of HIV, those are people who actually tested here, positive, a number of our clients actually tested from away, as we say, and then have come home, so their numbers would be recorded in other provinces”, she explained.
HIV is not the same as AIDS.
‘We remember those who we have lost to HIV/AIDS, celebrate the triumphs earned through the efforts of scores of advocates and providers, pledge our support for those at risk for or living with HIV, and rededicate our talents and efforts to achieving our goal of an AIDS-free generation’.
“It’s important to be tested because if you’re not tested and you don’t know your status, you could be spreading it and not even aware”, said LaVere.
Starting Monday, Dec. 7 Eastern Idaho Public Health will offer free HIV testing.
“The Health Ministry will continue to work closely with its partners in creating a much needed awareness on HIV/AIDS”, Minister Usamate said.
“The common challenges that we’re facing, metis, first nations, Inuit are discrimination, a lack of quality health care services to our people in isolated communities”.
