CDC Warns Against Miami Beach Travel After More Zika Hits Florida
As a result of the findings and the travel warnings, officials in Miami-Dade County have ordered a massive mosquito eradication plan to prevent the virus from spreading any further.

As a result, CDC has updated its travel guidance recommending pregnant should avoid travel to the designated area of Miami Beach, in addition to the designated area of Wynwood, both located in Miami-Dade County.
The city manager of Miami Beach has told local officials that two Zika cases are linked to the community.
In its statement Friday, the agency said pregnant women may also want to consider postponing nonessential travel throughout Miami-Dade County if they’re concerned about potential exposure to the mosquito-borne virus. More than 48 per cent of all visitors stayed in Miami Beach.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, this brings the total number of travel-related cases of Zika virus in Missouri to 22.
“We’re seeing more than 90 percent of mosquitoes in traps killed during each event”, he said.
FDA issues an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for emergency use of a Zika detection test.: On Wednesday, the FDA issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for emergency use of InBios International, Inc.’s (“InBios”), ZIKV Detect™ IgM Capture ELISA for the presumptive detection of Zika virus IgM antibodies in human sera collected from individuals meeting the CDC Zika virus clinical criteria, and/or CDC Zika virus epidemiological criteria, by laboratories in the United States that are certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA), 42 U.S.C. § 263a, to perform high complexity tests. The virus only causes mild, flu-like symptoms in most people, making it hard to confirm local transmissions, the CDC said.
It previously warned pregnant women to avoid the Wynwood arts district in Miami.
“Pregnant women and couples planning to have children need to be especially cautious because Zika can cause significant harm to a developing fetus”, said Dr. Smith.
Zika is spread by mosquitoes and sexual contact. “It is hard to predict how long active transmission will continue”.
In a statement emailed late Thursday, City Manager Jimmy Morales said Florida’s Department of Health is investigating Zika cases in Miami Beach, but none have been confirmed.
“Miami Beach does have a series of characteristics that make it particularly challenging”, Frieden said.
“We believe we have a new area where local transmission is occurring in Miami Beach”, Scott told reporters during a noon news conference.
By noon, Morales had informed Miami Beach commissioners by email that two people had acquired the disease, though he did not identify whether the cases were within a one-mile diameter of each other.
Florida Surgeon General Celeste Philip said the people from Texas, New York and Taiwan who were infected with Zika have all returned home.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott says officials have identified a second area of Zika transmission on the USA mainland.
Scott’s announcement included a series of new measures to help restaurants, hotels and other tourism industry attractions with Zika prevention measures, including distribution of educational materials and spraying their businesses for mosquitoes at the state’s expense.
The CDC said the first Miami Beach case was identified in late July.

Florida has confirmed 35 cases of local transmission of Zika. Statewide, a total of 577 people in Florida have contracted the disease, mostly through travel overseas, according to the health department. At least 63 pregnant women in Florida have contracted the disease, which can cause severe birth defects.
