Cecil the lion’s cub killed by rival male

Zimbabwe has called for the extradition of Palmer to face trial for poaching.

The deceased animal who was killed by American dentist Walter Palmer and prompted a national outcry like Martin Luther King had been slain, is set to be immortalized with his own life-sized statue.

Killed by dentist: Cecil the lion.

This is the first indication that President Robert Mugabe’s government really is going through with its attempt to get Palmer extradited.

Cecil was shot with a bow and arrow outside of Hwange National Park after allegedly being lured outside the parks limits.

It comes as a senior researcher who has followed the famous wild cat for most of his life says hunting lions should be banned. Although Mr. Palmer has maintained that his expedition had the necessary permits, Zimbabwe officials charged his professional guide, Theo Bronkhorst, with failing to prevent an illegal hunt.

Zimbabwe hunting officials did not respond to requests for comment.

“I found this lovely photo of Cecil and I just thought, man this would be a great portrait”, Gasenzer said.

“Lions practice infanticide – the male looking to take over and mate with the three lionesses would have crushed the cub’s skull as he looked to stake his claim”, the source told the Mirror.

He added big game hunters would only be allowed if “authorised in writing by the Director-General of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority”. I think people coming from larger cities and things like that have different views on hunting to people that live in a rural environment.

Stewart Dorrington, operator of Melorani Safaris in South Africa, said Seski had hunted on his property and all his actions there were “perfectly legal”.

Cecil wore a Global Positioning System tag and was monitored by a research team at Oxford University.

Charity Hodzi, a Zimbabwe-based human rights activist and lawyer, said she also had never heard of Cecil. African animals that are protected by various hunting restrictions should not be taken as trophies, regardless of the steep price any hunter pays.
