Celebrate National Park Service’s Birthday With Its 7 Weirdest Projects
In honor of the National Park Service celebrating its centennial anniversary, Ware took some time out of his busy day to tell us about how he draws inspiration from America’s national parks and why he finds them so important. The first 1,000 participants were allowed to keep their umbrellas and got T-shirts commemorating the event.

Brown says the centennial celebration is a way to remind Americans that the 413 different national park units belong to them.

The ceremony ended with the crowd of about 50 people singing “Happy Birthday” to the National Parks.

As the National Park Service celebrates their Centennial Thursday the country’s top steward spent her morning in Glacier National Park to look at the successes and challenges the Crown Jewel of the Continent is facing.
“That was the first time we as a nation made a decision to set aside a piece of land and say we were not going to allow it to be developed and preserve it in perpetuity for future generations”, said Julena Campbell, Public Information Officer for the New River Gorge National River in West Virginia.

The national parks contain some unique natural phenomena.
Entrance to the park will also be free on September 24, National Public Lands Day, as well as Veterans Day.

Entrance to all the national parks is free Thursday through the weekend. Some parks are serving birthday cake and offering ranger talks for the occasion.
