As a part of Earth Week, dozens of student volunteers helped plant six trees along the North side of Elliot Hall of Music.

The small trees have been planted in rural shelterbelts as well.
Collectively, they’ve raised $700,000 for tree planting and have planted 5,200 trees and given away 13,000 seedlings.
Arbor Day deserves more respect and attention than in the past.
For the last 12 years, the city of Westfield has had the designation of Tree City USA. The first NY infestation was discovered in Cattaraugus County in 2009, and the borer since has spread to more than 30 counties.
Since 2015, the program has trained 200 Clevelanders in how to plant, care for and maintain trees. Kent said she was pleased with the turnout and the event overall. “They’re very dedicated tree people”. Education, planning, siting, design.
The Red Oak was donated by the city’s storm water utility’s educational project.
Assemblywoman Patricia Fahy said, “New York is blessed to have a vast reserve of forest resources”.
Trees play another important role especially in an island community, he said, as they can hold the soil in place along the dunes.
According to Ingold, Illinois ranks third in the US for Tree City USA participants, only behind OH and Wisconsin.
“Just like a child, if you love it, nurture it and give it the right environment, these trees will blossom and bloom”, he said.
Mayor Mike Huether and City Councilor Teresa Stehly spoke at the event about the importance of trees, not only for us but for future generations.
Each student received a packet of baby trees in honor of the day.

“It’s a great partnership”, Mayor Matt Walsh said during a planting ceremony on Arbor Day (Friday).
“The students learned about pruning and other forms of tree care”, she said.
Hartford and Knox are collaborating on an initiative to restore the city’s tree canopy. Please celebrate by planting a tree, or several. Appreciate the gift trees offer us every day.
