Newspapers like the Chicago Tribune, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Houston Chronicle, and the Washington Post all ran headlines about Clinton’s achievement, but accompanied them with photos of former president Bill Clinton, who spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia Tuesday night.

Although he will campaign with and for Clinton in the lead-up to November’s election, the speech also seemed to serve as a valedictory address to the nation, summing up his accomplishments and handing over the leadership of the Democratic Party to the woman he hopes to be his successor. But didn’t stay confined to the moment.

Emmy Reinwald ’17, co-president of the Yale College Republicans, said she does not like Trump but will be voting for him over Clinton in the fall.

KIRO Radio’s Jason Rantz and Dave Ross dissected the speech. “Because you know he knows how to do it”, she said in May. “She didn’t try to be anybody else and didn’t go too deeply into details”. “Hillary Clinton’s nomination made me cry”, Erika Lynn-Green ’18 said. Throughout the night there were some jeers and boos. Every single time that happened, they chanted “Hillary”. “Hillary Clinton has a vision rooted in deeply held values”, Pelosi said.

“This is the beginning of another four years where we know we’re going to make strides, and she does not take that lightly”.

“He wants us to fear the future and fear each other”, she said.

“With your help, I will carry all of your voices and stories with me to the White House”, Clinton said. It’s not ‘girl.’ But he said, ‘I met a girl.’… It’s not really a media-savvy argument.

“You are the best organizers on the planet and I am so proud of all the change that you made possible”.

Local historian Rhonda Chalfant said that while some European countries have already placed women in charge, America has been “a little slow”, although she said the country has come quite far from where it stood nearly 100 years ago when women gained the right to vote in 1920.
