Celine Dion cancels concerts following death of husband Rene Angelil

The husband and manager of superstar singer Celine Dion has died.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted his condolences to Celine Dion, their children, friends and “loved ones of Rene Angelil on his passing” while Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard called Angelil “engaged, passionate, talented and courageous”.

Dion resumed her residency at Las Vegas’ Caesars Palace in August 2015.

In an interview earlier this summer with USA Today, Dion talked about her husband’s influence on her decision to continue performing in Las Vegas, despite his terminal prognosis. Celine and Rene share three kids: Rene-Charles, 14, and twins, Eddy and Nelson, 5.

Dion and Angelil, who were 26 years apart in age, married in an elaborate ceremony in 1994 at Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal.

Angélil died of throat cancer while under the care of a physician.

According to report, Celine Dion took two career breaks to look after her husband after he was diagnosed with throat cancer, first in 2000.

“The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time”, it continued. Dion had withdrawn herself away from the limelight several times to care for him.

René also has a son and daughter from two previous marriages. “I understand. Talk to me about it, ‘” pausing before adding: “And Rene says to me, ‘I want to die in your arms.’ OK, fine, I’ll be there, you’ll die in my arms”. After his group broke up in 1972, he got into music management and discovered a 12-year-old Celine Dion, who went on to become an global music star.
