Celine Dion husband René Angélil, who began his career as a singer and later devoted his life to Celine’s career, has died after a 20-year battle with throat cancer.

A message on the star’s website said the shows this weekend at Caesar’s Palace had been cancelled.

A spokesman for the singer, Marc Olivier, said more information would be given in the coming days, but for now the family wished to be left to mourn in private.

René, who married megastar Celine back in 1994, had been receiving treatment for the disease, but had been suffering for some time; so much so that Celine took a hiatus from her residency at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace Las Vegas past year.
