Dion is set to perform Queen’s “The Show Must Go On” at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday.
Later her son Rene-Charles surprised her to present her with the Icon Award, just months after he moved the world when he gave a eulogy at his father’s funeral. “I can not live with a regret, but this, I do”, Dion said.
The gala kicked off with a tribute to Britney Spears, who at age 34 was picked for the Millenium Award in recognition of her outstanding achievements and influence within the music industry. “I don’t want to cry in front of you”, adding that her late husband Angelil “will continue to watch over me from above”.
“Thank you very much. This is such a tremendous honor”.
As Dion poured her heart out to the audience, viewers at home got a little pervvy with their tweets, commenting on her son’s good looks. “I’m 48 years old and I lost the love of my life”. Music has been my passion since before I can nearly remember. I want to be so strong for my family and my kids. “It’s to share moments with fans and the celebration of music itself”. Thus, despite the huge fortune and fame Celine Dion has amassed through a magnificent career, she has also endured significant pain in the last few months and during Sunday’s acceptance speech, the pain was apparent and real.

Dion tells ABC News that even though Angelil’s death was expected, “you’re never ready for something like this to happen”.
