Two days after losing her husband to cancer, singer Celine Dion has lost an older brother to the disease. The devastating news came amid Dion’s funeral preparations for her husband.
Dion has not made any recent comments on the site about her brother.
Daniel Dion, the eighth oldest of 13 siblings, “passed away peacefully” surrounded by family at the La Maison Adhémar-Dion care center in Québec, Canada, the statement posted on the singer’s website said. “No one knows how long he has”. The renowned singer is the youngest.
“It’s very painful. It’s a matter of days or hours”, Dion’s sister Claudette told the Journal of Montreal “It looks a lot like René, he had cancer of the throat, tongue and brain”.
“He was ready, and isn’t suffering any more”, she said.
“Celine is still in Vegas with her kids making plans for (her husband’s) funeral”.
The funeral of Mr Angelil, who helped to launch Celine Dion’s career, will be held on Friday in the Notre Dame basilica in Montreal, where the couple married.

“Taking in consideration the reserved character of their deceased brother, the family wishes respect and discretion from the media”, the family said. He died in Las Vegas where Celine has been headlining at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
