Celtic 5-1 Rangers: Mark Warbuton says ‘no major gulf’ between sides

MARK WARBURTON last night insisted there is no gulf in class between Rangers and Celtic, despite seeing his side crash 5-1 to their Old Firm rivals. Celtic will be hoping to have striker Leigh Griffiths back from injury in time to play, as well as young defender Kieran Tierney. When Barrie pulled his shot just wide I turned to Davie and said: “If we get this goal here we’re in good shape”.

Rangers have drawn two of their first four Ladbrokes Premiership games and won the other two narrowly, but Miller’s belief in Mark Warburton’s managerial methods is unshakeable ahead of Saturday’s Parkhead clash.

He said: “Whether you win 5-1 or lose 5-1 – they are pros and we have to make sure we’re better for it”. But there’ s no major gulf (between Rangers and Celtic).

“It was a great day for the club and the team. And if we do that, we will be in a good place”.

Asked who came out on top in their duel, he said: “I think the scoreline talks for itself”.

“It was a special occasion and it’s obviously nice to be on the winning side”.

“The supporters are so passionate and I loved playing in those games no matter where they were played”.

Rodgers also singled out Dembele for praise as he scored the flawless hat-trick with a header, right-foot and then left-foot strike.

Strong, quick and with a keen eye for goal, he is the class of player that Celtic’s ambitious appointment of Rodgers has allowed them to acquire. “After Liverpool, it was not just about any club, it was about the right club”.

“He could have got a lot more money than he’s getting here but he’s come here and his attitude has been refreshing”.

That was painful blow for the visitors and for Warburton, he added: “It was our best spell and I think they were frustrated that we were getting second ball as well”.

Celtic kept its ideal start with four wins in four matches.

Pictures on social media showed dozens of roof tiles and lights smashed and cubicle doors broken inside the away section of Celtic Park while the game was tainted by sectarian singing and distasteful banners and effigies.

“Scott Brown does his talking on the field”.

“It’s a huge game, a big game, but one that we want to win, like every game at Celtic Park”, said Celtic FC manager Brendan Rodgers.
