Celtic can learn from loss – Rodgers

Those more reflective supporters are quite right.

“There can be no embarrassment because they do that to better teams than ourselves”.

Much of Barcelona’s mauling of Celtic exhausted the best out of the MSN trio’s goal machine. Not that the team they were up against could be described as just anybody.

Sinclair, who joined Celtic from Villa for around £4 million in August, featured at the Camp Nou as Barcelona ran riot. Nevertheless Barcelona have always been dominant and have always had an upper Hand against Celtic.

“We have experience in the Champions League, we were resilient, and we got a good point”, said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Genius is rare and must be admired. The Catalans have done this kind of thing to so many teams in the recent past and that is the only consolation for the visitors. This does not happen often in sport.

“That’s why he’s the best player of all time, without a doubt – for his numbers and his footballing vision”.

Despite overseeing the club’s record defeat in European competition, also the heaviest defeat for any club that has won the European Cup, Rodgers tried to remain positive.

“But, we can’t just write a result like this off because of how good Barcelona are”.

“They are very special players, they have incredible movement and speed and stopping them is very hard because they are world class”, he said.

Enrique was in the firing line after leaving Messi and Suarez on the bench among seven changes for the Alaves clash.

In short, kick someone. Football, yes, but not as anybody in Scotland knows it. “We need to be careful to judge the new players, though”. Full time, when it came, was a mercy.

Celtic’s attentions on the continent will turn next to their home game with City at the end of the month, where Rodgers will seek a notable upturn after a night to forget in Catalonia.

But such hindsight is close to useless.

Two goals from Messi either side of Moussa Dembele’s missed penalty for Celtic gave Barca a comfortable half-time lead. If he scores it his team are still well beaten.

Rodgers, whose Scottish Premiership side beat Old Firm rivals Rangers 5-1 last weekend, said: “We put a huge effort into the weekend and got a fantastic victory”.

It got even better from there. What does that say for everyone else?

The strike was PSG’s quickest in the Champions League, but the French champions, and Cavani in particular, were guilty of failing to convert a succession of golden opportunities.
