Lionel Messi helped himself to a hat-trick and Luis Suarez chipped in with two.

“To go down 2-0 quickly, was obviously disappointing. Today we really enjoyed being back in tandem”.

“To lose by so many goals is tough to take”.

He told broadcasting media: “Everyone in that changing room was disappointed”.

Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, who had scored a hat-trick in the 5-1 win over Rangers at the weekend, had a penalty saved by Marc-Andre ter Stegen when the home side led by only one goal.

“They scored a very early goal – a great finish by Messi – but we nearly managed to get ourselves back into the game, we missed a penalty and Scott Sinclair had a goal disallowed for off-side”.

Celtic supporters would like to believe they are a much, much better team than any of those listed above.

Atletico Madrid host Sporting Gijon on Saturday following a 1-0 win at PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. “He has already scored two vital pens for us this season, so he didn’t have to say anything”.

“Once we started to get a bit of belief and confidence to pass the ball we started to create opportunities. We know at Celtic Park, with our fans, anything can happen”.

The final result was Celtic’s worst ever defeat in European competition, but Rodgers maintains there was nothing to be embarrassed about.

And Brown, while frustrated with his team’s display, Brown said there is no shame in losing.

“There can be no embarassment because they do that to better teams than ourselves”, said Rodgers.

“But we need to defend better from the front middle and back, be more compact and fearless on the ball and even here we usually do better than that”.

We also have to be a lot better on the ball. And Celtic paid a heavy price for that miss, as Messi and Barcelona doubled their tally soon after. It’s a good welcome to the Champions League.

“We try to give our best in every competition but, after a disappointment in the league, it was important not to slip up in the Champions League – and this is the ideal start”.

“Ospina was very good and he will have shown tonight for those who doubted him that he is a good goalkeeper”, said the Frenchman.

“I think the main thing is we watch the video back and see how we can be better as a team, defending and everything else”.
