Celtics little big man Thomas enjoying All-Star selection

The NBA announced during Thursday’s special on TNT that Thomas will be heading to Toronto Feb. 12-14, joining Jimmy Butler, DeMar DeRozan, Paul Millsap, Andre Drummond, Chris Bosh and John Wall as the seven reserves selected to the Eastern Conference All-Star team. It will be his first All-Star appearance.

The Boston narrative all year has been that the Celtics need a star for them to get anywhere in the playoffs, but I don’t see how they don’t already have one in Thomas.

The All-Star guard sat out Thursday’s practice with a sore ankle, but he played as expected on Friday in the Celtics’ fourth straight victory.

Only four other players in the league-Steph Curry, James Harden, LeBron James, and Russell Westbrook-have averaged more than 21 points, 6 assists and 1 steal per game this season. If that doesn’t make him one of the 15 best players in the conference, I don’t know what does. “Not just the individual success, but as a team….”

The Los Angeles Lakers would like to win a couple of more games for Kobe Bryant, who is retiring from the National Basketball Association after the regular season ends, and they have been disappointed with Roy Hibbert as their starting center, so they might be inclined to upgrade by adding the offensive punch of David Lee to keep the scores a bit closer.

On Friday, he was rewarded for his play by being named a 2016 National Basketball Association D-League All-Star.
